Named after Aleppo, a town in northern Syria, this spice is a staple of Middle Eastern cooking. Aleppo pepper is made from dry, coarsely ground Halaby chile peppers and can be used much like crushed red pepper in recipes and dishes. It emparts a smoky, sweet, fruity complexity of flavor and a tanginess that makes it more of a condiment than a garnish. We love adding it to meaty stews and soups in winter or sprinkling some over our morning avocado toast for an extra zing!
